Earth Observation System (EASOS)
Project disclaimer
Description
EASOS provides a platform that enables the Malaysian Government to help tackle country-specific environmental, security and human challenges. Malaysia is an emerging economy with multiple environmental monitoring challenges that are managed by a range of different ministries, both nationally and regionally. Natural disasters and illegal activities are costing hundreds of millions of dollars in economic losses and direct clean-up cost. In 2014 alone, the combined impacts on the Malaysian economy of flooding, marine pollution and illegal logging was estimated at more than $12.5 billion - EASOS tackles these challenges. EASOS is made up of three domains: FloodWatch, ForestWatch and MarineWatch, which all use the same platform. A common thread across all domains is the integration of frequent-periodic satellite data intended to provide information not otherwise available to authorities.

This project will provide informed and coordinated decision making capability to 23 government agencies in Malaysia through a user centred dashboard delivering information and analysis on three environmental challenges: flooding, illegal logging and marine pollution.
