Levera Pond Recovery: Mangrove Restoration and Education Initiative
Description
The project aims to restore the ecological integrity of the Levera Pond Protected Area (LPPA) following Hurricane Beryl’s severe impact. Through targeted mangrove and tree replanting and repair of damaged infrastructure, it will accelerate habitat recovery, strengthen coastal resilience, and safeguard biodiversity. Beneficiaries include local communities dependent on eco-tourism and conservation-based livelihoods, students and educators gaining practical environmental knowledge, environmental NGOs, and researchers. The restoration will also benefit the area’s diverse wildlife, including the endangered female leatherback turtle. The change will be a healthier, climate-resilient wetland that sustains biodiversity, supports livelihoods, and raises climate and conservation awareness.
