ARM: Supporting Safeguards of Democracy in Armenia
Description
The intended outcome of the project implemented by International Foundation for Electoral Systems will be increased democratic culture and overall civic engagement in Armenian democracy. Public trust in democracy and democratic institutions in Armenia is vulnerable to manipulation and it remains easy for malign actors – both domestic and foreign – to subvert due to poor cyber defences, corruption and abuse of state resources, and public complacency. Challenges are still in place for full implementation of anticorruption efforts to improve the ability of key government institutions to thwart domestic and foreign malign interference through needed reforms and public awareness. To capitalize on the earlier achievements of International Foundation for Electoral Systems interventions, the project will build on the momentum of 2021 reforms to foster a culture of political finance and abuse of state resources monitoring and oversight among Armenian stakeholders. International Foundation for Electoral Systems will be promoting reform by defending critical democratic infrastructure and enhancing Armenia’s cybersecurity environment, with a focus on election administration, parliament, and oversight bodies; and making government more responsible to citizens though civic education and engagement initiatives across Armenian society.
