DFID Somalia Social Norms and Participation Programme (SNAP): Challenging Harmful Attitudes and Norms for Gender Equality and Empowerment in Somalia (CHANGES)

Description

In response to DFID Somalias Call for Proposals, Save the Children, in consortium with International Rescue Committee and CARE International, will implement a range of interventions which will be Challenging Harmful Attitudes and Norms for Gender Equality and Empowerment in Somalia (CHANGES). The proposed project seeks to challenge harmful social norms including Female Genital Mutilation and Child Early and Forced Marriage and to increase womens social and economic empowerment through interventions at the individual, household, community and societal levels. Successful implementation of these interventions will result in reduction in harmful practices, increased value of women and girls and will contribute towards greater voice, choice and control for Somali women and girls over their bodies and futures (Project Impact). This will be achieved transforming social norms to support gender equality in Somalia (Outcome) through three key outcome areas: 1) Enhanced legal and policy environment for greater equality of women and girls; 2) Improved knowledge and attitudes of men, women, girls and boys on gender discriminatory social norms; and 3) Increased social and economic empowerment of women and girls. IRC will be working in Galkayo (South), Hobyo, Hawal-wadag, Karaan.
