Strengthening the use of data for malaria decision making in Africa.
Description
The Regional Malaria Programme is helping national Governments across Africa to pull together information on malaria to demonstrate progress, identify better use of resources and achieve the greatest long term impact across the continent. At least 22 African countries where there is malaria transmission will be directly supported.In Kenya, this kind of work can save $US50 million by targeting bed nets to people in need of protection from malaria. DFID has supported Tanzania and Nigeria map their epidemic. There has been a tremendous decline in malaria, in part, as a result of UK taxpayers investments. But progress is uneven and fragile. Both countries are using the data to fully understand the determinants of the decline in disease and better target future interventions to get the best value for money and sustain the gains.
