The Darwin Initiative is the UK’s flagship international challenge fund for biodiversity conversation and poverty reduction, established at the Rio Earth Summit in 1992. The Darwin Initiative is a grant scheme working on projects that aim to slow, halt, or reverse the rates of biodiversity loss and degradation, with associated reductions in multidimensional poverty. To date, the Darwin Initiative has awarded more than £195m to over 1,280 projects in 159 countries to enhance the capability and capacity of national and local stakeholders to deliver biodiversity conservation and multidimensional poverty reduction outcomes in low and middle-income countries. Governance foundations to sustain forests and people: Forest Governance, Markets and Climate Phase II
UK - Foreign, Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO)
The programme will work at international and national levels to address governance failures by both government and market to curb deforestation, restore degraded lands and eco-services whilst delivering benefits and sustaining livelihoods for people in developing countries. It will build from the experience of an earlier global programme, expanding it to address new threats to forests such as mining and encouraging national climate strategies to focus on forests.
Climate Action for a Resilient Asia
UK - Foreign, Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO)
A Technical Assistance facility will build capacity of national and subnational governments and vulnerable communities to integrate climate resilience into government-wide policy and planning and also work with the private sector, banks and financial regulators to support the integration of climate-related risks into investment decisions. A portion of the programme budget will be earmarked for coordinated policy work and regional cooperation in specific sectors or themes which require a regional approach where we have existing successful regional partnerships which can be scaled up, and or there is demand from country offices for a multi-country approach. Enable management of the programme including monitoring and evaluation, research, knowledge dissemination, communication, advisory support to country offices if required.

The GNCAs represent an additional allocation from BEIS designed to reinvest in excellent UKRI Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) and Newton Fund programmes and enable them to maximise development impact. This involves instances where funding can be utilized to 9 original grant objectives affected by the ODA review, or opportunities for new follow-on, knowledge exchange or impact activities. In either case, the funding is targeted to support research along the route to achieving economic or social impact in countries on the OECD DAC list.

International Programme (ODA) in support of BHC Port Moresby Country Business Plan

This programme will support the main Country Business Plan objectives including: • Climate and nature: contributing efforts to increase PNG’s resilience to climate change and its adaptability to sustain healthy oceans and biodiversity • Economic resilience and growth: contributing to PNG’s economic growth and resilience through UK trade policy and programmes • Stability and security: contributing to improvements in PNG’s capacity to counter malign influence, reduce local conflict and strengthen the rules-based system.
Pacific Clean Energy Programme

The Pacific Clean Energy Programme (PCEP) will support increased investment in renewable energy, and aims to improve access to electricity, increase the proportion of electricity from renewable sources, and reduce greenhouse gas emission.
