The Darwin Initiative is the UK’s flagship international challenge fund for biodiversity conversation and poverty reduction, established at the Rio Earth Summit in 1992. The Darwin Initiative is a grant scheme working on projects that aim to slow, halt, or reverse the rates of biodiversity loss and degradation, with associated reductions in multidimensional poverty. To date, the Darwin Initiative has awarded more than £195m to over 1,280 projects in 159 countries to enhance the capability and capacity of national and local stakeholders to deliver biodiversity conservation and multidimensional poverty reduction outcomes in low and middle-income countries. Humanitarian Emergency Response Operations and Stabilisation Programme (HEROS)

The programme will provide humanitarian emergency response operations management and stabilisation support. This programme will enable UK to respond rapidly, at scale, to global humanitarian disasters as well as supporting DFID teams working on protracted crises, chronic emergencies and humanitarian reform. This contract will also provide a flexible model to support the Government’s conflict, stabilisation and security work in fragile and conflict-affected states – both during steady state periods and in response to crises.
Strengthening Human Rights Compliance of the MSS/GSF Mission to Haiti

The UN-backed MSS/GSF mission to Haiti is supporting the National Police to bring greater security and stabilisation to the country by reducing the control of violent gangs. This Programme, implemented by the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), will help the MSS/GSF achieve its objectives by i) building the capacity of mission personnel to prevent, identify, investigate, report, and act on human rights violations, gender-based violence, and sexual exploitation and abuse; ii) advancing human rights protection of Haitian local communities and civil society; and iii) strengthening the capacity of Haitian rule of law entities collaborating with the MSS/GSF, such as the police, judiciary and prison administration, to conduct operations in accordance with international human rights standards.
