Building Local Resilience in Syria (BLRS)

The Building Local Resilience in Syria (BLRS) programme will take an integrated approach to help Syrians in need to feed themselves and their families. It will help around 65,000 Syrians in need per year to be less reliant on harmful coping behaviours (like skipping meals, child labour, or recruitment to violent and extremist groups) and less dependent on emergency aid, and to be more self-reliant and more economically and socially resilient to shocks and stresses. It will deliver interventions at local level, and particularly target women, young people, and those with disabilities, whom we know are especially vulnerable in the various Syria contexts.

The UK’s contribution to the Facility for Refugees in Turkey, FRIT 2

The Facility will help people who have fled the conflict in Syria and now live in Turkey. Turkey hosts the largest number of refugees in the world, including 3.6 million Syrians. Support will include humanitarian assistance, education, healthcare and employment support. Helping refugees and host communities in the region makes an important contribution to addressing the European refugee crisis. All decisions on programme funding are in line with the UK Aid Strategy.

Humanitarian Access in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.

Humanitarian Assistance and Resilience in South Sudan (HARISS) 2015 - 2024

Building Resilience and adapting to climate change in Malawi

This programme aims to strengthen the resilience of poor households in Malawi to withstand current and projected weather and climate-related shocks and stresses. This will in turn halt the annual cycle of humanitarian crises that blights people’s lives, harms poverty reduction efforts and swallows up resources. The UK will invest up to £90.5 million over five years [2018-2023] to provide direct benefits to 1.7 million poor and vulnerable people in Malawi [approximately 300,000 households].

Adaptation for Smallholder Agricultural Programme (ASAP)

To provide knowledge and best practices to help over 6 million smallholder farmers in up to 43 countries adapt to climate change. Grants will be made to: build small scale water-harvesting, water storage and irrigation systems for farmers; provide farmers with improved seeds that are drought tolerant; help farmers access markets to sell their crops; to plant trees on farms and introduce soil and water conservation practices; and, enable farmers to access daily and seasonal weather forecasts (e.g. using text messages) so they know when best to plant and harvest crops.”

Enabling predictable, quick and effective responses to humanitarian crises
