Colombia Peace Programme
Description
Insecurity and violence generated by Colombian armed and criminal groups is on the rise; fuelling illicit economies, record cocaine production, environmental degradation and human rights abuses – affecting not just Colombia, but also spilling over into the region. The UK will promote long-term stability by supporting implementation of the 2016 Peace Agreement and providing targeted support to the ambitious and complex peace and security agenda with wider politically-recognised armed groups. The programme will do so by strengthening Colombia's fragmented peace architecture, improving the security response to non-state armed and criminal groups, prioritising the protection of civilians, particularly marginalised communities, strengthening Colombia’s resilience to serious and organised crime (SOC) including at the nexus of security and the environment and implementing key strands of the Colombian Government’s recently published National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security (WPS).
