Description

The Africa Adaptation Acceleration Program (AAAP) has two financing mechanisms: the Upstream Financing Facility, managed by GCA, and the Climate Action Window, managed under the AfDB’s African Development Fund (ADF). Through the AAAP Upstream Financing Facility GCA and its implementation partners, many of them African institutions, support the mainstreaming of adaptation components into the projects of multilateral development banks (MDBs) and other public and private development finance institutions (DFIs). The focus is on four key thematic areas or pillars: food security; infrastructure and nature-based solutions (NbS); youth entrepreneurship and adaptation jobs; and adaptation finance. These are areas where investments in adaptation and resilience building can yield high economic and social dividends for African nations and can accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Each pillar has business lines that are designed to prioritize adaptation needs and to mainstream adaptation solutions into investments to ensure that countries leverage limited investment resources to optimize the adaptation dividend.
