Accelerating capital allocations to transition-aligned solutions through the UK-China ESG Leaders Forum
Project disclaimer
Description
The ESG Leaders Forum (ELF) is a practitioner-led initiative to further embed ESG integration into the Chinese investment community and transfer best practice from UK counterparts. Facilitated by joint leadership between CoL and BIFS, ELF will allow UK ESG practitioners to participate in targeted workstreams aimed at increasing uptake of ESG practices in China. Given China’s recent commitment to reach carbon neutrality by 2060, the Chinese investor community needs to understand its role in working towards this goal. ELF seeks to equip and support asset owners and managers who are on the journey to align investment with net zero but have yet to make explicit commitments. ELF will consist of three independent workstreams for driving dialogue and change: • Stewardship framework pilot • Scaling ESG solutions across asset classes for institutional investors • Capacity building roadshows
Objectives
Outcome 1: Increase in Chinese asset managers electing to use a stewardship provider or including decarbonisation as a stewarship objective Outcome 2: Asset owners will develop more clearly articulated sustainability investment beliefs to guide their dialogues with asset managers Outcome 3: Asset managers and owners will have a clearer understanding of barriers to scaling ESG across asset classes and among insitutional investors Outcome 4: Chinese regulators demonstrate comittments to support investment industry to overcome identified barriers to ESG integration and active investment solutions. Short term goal - implicit endorsment of the work of ELF through a thought leadership piece" Adopting structured regulatory guidance on stewardship and active ownership practices this may be a long-term goal.
