Description

"The Philippines suffers over 20 cyclones annually, as well as frequent volcanic eruptions and earthquakes. It is highly experienced at responding to rapid onset disasters, but a key lesson from Typhoon Yolanda in 2013 was the ineffective deployment

Objectives

This project will transform disaster responses in the Philippines by prepositioning powerful but easily deployable Inmarsat Global Xpress satellite communications equipment within the pilot regions. This will provide much needed increase in data bandwidth capacity for relief agencies and first responders to get information in and out of disaster zones much more effectively. This will be supported by training to the regional staff in the Philippines
