Description

National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR)’s first Global Health Research (GHR) Development Awards call. The GHR Development Awards provides funding to increase the competitiveness of global health research applications led by researchers based in countries eligible for Official Development Assistance (ODA). Funding awards can be led by a principal investigator employed by a higher education institution or a research institute based in an ODA-eligible country. Through the programme, NIHR aims to support researchers to progress to larger awards and be better positioned to generate a high-quality internationally competitive proposal for research funding addressing needs identified in ODA-eligible countries. Funding is awarded for a 12 month period to support the underpinning work to develop high-quality research proposals.

Objectives

1. Support the development of high-quality research proposals led by researchers in low and middle-income countries (LMICs) which directly target local needs and priorities. 2. Build global health research capacity and capability by supporting underpinning work to develop high-quality research proposals that will help award holders and their organisations secure further research funding from the NIHR and other funders. 3. Promote the development of equitable and sustainable research partnerships among collaborators, including communities and community organisations based in LMICs.
