IDB Invest General Capital Increase (IDBi GCI)

IATI Identifier: GB-GOV-1-400170

Description

IDB Invest (IDBi) is the arm of the IaDB Group that invests in the private sector. IDBi is seeking a GCI to scale up operations from $6.75bn to between $13bn and $17bn annually in each of its borrowing member countries while increasing development effectiveness and impact. It will do so through an 'originate-to-share' approach, with greater upstream activity to create and prepare new projects and to develop new markets. It will manage its capital efficiency by greater risk transfer through securitisation of the portfolio. It will aim for private capital mobilisation between 1:1.7 to 2, equity investment, including high-risk investments with potential development impact. UK priorities are: delivery of G20 CAF review; DFI reform; and increased support for climate goals and for Caribbean borrowers. The UK intends to increase its shareholding from 0.22% to 1% through its contribution to the GCI, which would cost approximately £60m (£9m/year over 7 years; 2025-2031).
