Enhancing Quality and Universal access to Indigenous People's reproductive healthcare (EQUIP)
Project disclaimer
Description
Globally, Ethnic Minority and Indigenous People (EM/IP) women/girls experience significantly worse Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) outcomes than majority populations. The project is a totally EM/IP women-led initiative tackling multiple barriers in SRH including unequal gender, ethnicity and power norms and intersecting forms of discrimination. EQUIP will use indigenous and feminist transformative methods to lead EM/IP women and girls (including those facing triple and quadruple discrimination on grounds of disability, HIV status etc.) through a process of researching and analysing their problems; piloting solutions; and advocating for their rights to do more of this, as an alternative to other leave no one behind approaches that simply treat the most marginalised groups as beneficiaries. The project will directly benefit 41,281 marginalised Ethnic Minority and/or Indigenous Women/girls in target areas of Myanmar, Cambodia, Ethiopia, and Kenya enabling them to influence, have access to, and utilise SRH services that better meet their needs. A critical mass of EM/IP women will gain capacity to carry out research and advocacy on SRH services. Almost 200,000 EM/IP women/girls will ultimately benefit from access to improved services in target areas.
