UK response to Ebola crisis through support for UNMEER and the wider UN system
Description
• To support an effective response to the Ebola crisis in West Africa, through the provision of technical expertise, and the prioritisation and delivery of urgent, critical resources in line with the UN assessment of needs and requirements. • To strengthen command and control through the UK’s Joint Inter-Agency Task Force; assist in the coordination of affected governments, UN agencies and partners involved in the response at international, national, and community levels; and strengthen the overall operating platform. In addition, UK expertise will help to build the capability of affected countries to manage future threats to public health. • This is consistent with the priority DFID gives to humanitarian crisis intervention and is aligned to DFID’s strategy for tacking Ebola, which has two strategic aims: 1) reduce the transmission rate to less than 1 initially and then to zero in Sierra Leone; and 2) prevent the spread to the wider region.
