Objectives

The aim of this project is to enhance the capacity of key Chinese financial institutions and policy makers to understand climate transition risk assessment methodologies and tools that exist to integrate this into future investment and policy decision making.

Description

Activity 1: Contribution to NGFS handbook on environmental risk assessment Output 1: Chapter on climate transition risk assessment methodologies and tools in NGFS handbook Details: Contribution to the NGFS handbook by writing the chapter on climate transition risk assessment tools and methodologies and providing ongoing technical support on the topic ahead of the formal release of the handbook in April 2020. Activity 2: Capacity building and engagement with key stakeholders in China (financial institutions and policy makers) Output 2: PowerPoint presentations and training in at least one targeted workshop, and at least 3 targeted meetings. Details: Based on the work of Activity 1, capacity building, training and engagement materials will be produced that are targeted at key stakeholders in China. A workshop for Chinese financial institutions will be run that includes presentations and training sessions during GIP organized meetings, or other forums, and targeted meetings with key stakeholders. Activity 3: Develop and release a report in both English and Chinese on climate transition risk assessment methodologies and tools Output 3: Report on climate transition risk assessment methodologies and tools in English and Chinese. Details: Based on the work of Activity 1 and other relevant experience, a standalone report on climate transition risk assessment methodologies and tools will be produced. The report will be in both English and Chinese for use in capacity building and broader awareness-raising purposes for stakeholders in China. The report will be publicly released at an appropriate venue (for example during a GIP organized workshop). Activity 4: Disseminate the report at the NGFS webinar.
