Mozambique Demographic Transition - Waala - Programme

To contribute to a more favourable enabling environment for the demographic transition in Mozambique, through coordinated action with others. The FCDO will use programming, evidence and diplomacy to influence decision-makers to increase investments towards cost-effective interventions that will accelerate changes in the population structure. These interventions will help young people to fulfil their potential by preventing unintended pregnancies and improving the literacy and numeracy skills among girls. The Government’s systems will be strengthened to include population issues in planning and budgeting. Over 130,000 unintended pregnancies will be averted resulting in 427,000 users of modern contraceptives. These investments should help to offset deteriorating human capital outcomes because of COVID-19.
LAFIYA -UK Support for Health in Nigeria

To save lives, reduce suffering and improve economic prospects for the poorest and most vulnerable in Nigeria through: i. Encouraging Government of Nigeria to increase resources invested in health (through advocacy, community accountability; and data to inform government prioritisation using a “delivery” approach, as used successfully in Pakistan) ii. Improving effectiveness and efficiency of public and private basic health services (through innovative financing mechanisms, strengthening health systems and working with private sector to deliver affordable health services for the poorest populations) iii. Reducing total fertility rate (through addressing social norms, demographic impact analysis, and support to family planning commodities and services).
Better Health in Bangladesh (BHB) Programme

The programme is contributing to ending preventable deaths of mothers, babies and children, tackling antimicrobial resistance and addressing climate change impact on health.
Better Lives for Somali Women and Children

To achieve UK's manifesto commitment of reducing preventable deaths, the Better Lives for Somali Women and Children will continue to respond to the health and nutrition needs of the Somali people. There will be a continued focus on delivering an essential package of health services. The programme will strengthen the Somali Health Authorities oversight of service provision, which will in turn promote local accountability and allow them increasingly to respond to the needs of their populations. This programme approach aims to support long term sustainability and state building that is part of the wider strategic agenda. There will also be a climate change mitigation component (ICF) within the programme.
Scaling up Family Planning in Tanzania

This is a national programme to scale up access to family planning across Tanzania. Specific activities will include: • Outreach work in rural and urban areas as well as in Tanzania’s refugee camps and host communities. • Specific work to improve access to family planning as well as sexual and reproductive health information to youth, people with disabilities as well as services for victims of sexual violence. • Procure family planning commodities, strengthen the supply chain, and train of public health providers

Women's Integrated Sexual Health

To increase the use of family planning methods to reduce maternal deaths and prevent the use and access to unsafe abortion, including for marginalised and young women. It will enable women in target countries to safely plan their pregnancies and improve their sexual and reproductive health. It will progress towards Universal Reproductive Health and Rights [SDGs 3.7 and 5.6]. It will support a range of services including family planning, education and behaviour change, prevention of unsafe abortion and other integrated sexual and reproductive health services. By 2020, the programme aims to have supported an additional 4.1m family planning users. It will avert up to 9.4m unsafe abortions and 8.9m unintended pregnancies, and provide 23m couple years of family planning protection.
Delivering Accelerated Family Planning in Pakistan (DAFPAK)

To increase access in Pakistan to qualtiy family planning information and services by those who would like to use it, particualrly underserved groups such as rural women. It will directly contribute to Sustainable Development Goal 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being, as well as to the FP2020 target of reaching additional users of family planning.
South Sudan Health Pooled Fund Phase III

To provide a government led effective health system that will deliver improved access to quality health services across eight states in South Sudan with a specific focus on reducing maternal and child mortality. The Health Pooled Fund (HPF3) will reduce maternal and under-five mortality rates in South Sudan, through (i) the delivery of a basic package of health and nutrition services; (ii) promoting community engagement in health as a public good and (iii) supporting local health systems stabilisation.
Disability Inclusive Development Programme

This programme will deliver a set of interventions to support people with disabilities in a number of developing countries. The programme will deliver tangible outcomes for people with disabilities including access to education, jobs, healthcare and reduced stigma and discrimination and encourage global actors to prioritise the issue. The programme will also test innovative approaches to disability inclusion and generate high quality research to fill gaps and discover what works in this under-resourced area. A lack of attention and funding has severely limited evidence of what works to deliver inclusion in international development for approximately 800 million people with disabilities in developing countries. Interventions that work will be scaled up, widening their reach, and new learning and evidence shared across the global development community and national governments.

Sudan Free of Female Genital Mutilation Phase 2 (SFFGM2)

The programme will change social norms in target communities and at scale, support an improved legal environment, strengthen systems combatting FGM and other harmful practices, and catalyse a wider response to gender equality in Sudan. Primary beneficiaries will be girls and women in target communities, locations and states in Sudan.
Women and Girls Health: The Ending Preventable Deaths of Mothers, Babies and Children support programme

This programme provides technical assistance (TA) to FCDO teams to complement all UK investments that support the manifesto commitment to End the Preventable Deaths of mothers, babies and children by 2030 (EPD). The FCDO EPD approach paper (2021) is central to women and girls’ health, encompassing aspects of policy and programme work in health systems, sexual reproductive health and rights, nutrition, water, sanitation and hygiene, climate resilient health and research.
Supporting Afghanistan's Basic Services

The Supporting Afghanistan's Basic Services programme (SABS) maintains basic service provision, focused on education, health and support for early recovery and livelihoods programming in Afghanistan. Grassroots Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights Programme
