The UK Centre of Expertise (CoE) for Jobs and Inclusive Growth (JIG) aims to contribute to inclusive and sustainable poverty reduction and enhance climate resilience by providing technical assistance and expertise in developing countries, and generating evidence on what works in supporting firms to grow and become more productive and responsible employers. The JIG CoE will support countries implementing their growth strategies, providing support to governments and firms. It will support businesses and investment in a broad range of 'real economy' sectors including manufacturing and services: these include critical minerals supply chains, electric vehicles and environment-friendly packaging, green construction materials; and the services that complement these sectors in their supply chains (e.g. design, logistics, e-commerce, and professional services).
Manufacturing Africa - Foreign Direct Investment

Manufacturing Africa helps drive the inclusive economic transformation needed to create jobs for the future and set countries on a trajectory out of poverty. It is expected to generate £1.2 billion of new Foreign Direct Investment in manufacturing sectors in Africa. It will do this by working with African Governments and international companies to facilitate new investments, such as by developing the business case for firms to undertake investment, or by supporting their negotiations with Government, and by addressing sector specific barriers preventing those particular investments from taking place. MA also aims to reduce carbon emissions from manufacturing through thought leadership as well as delivering technical assistance and supporting investments that facilitate climate change mitigation and or adaptation.
UK - Ghana Partnership for Jobs and Economic Transformation (JET)

To promote Ghana as an investment destination of choice in West Africa; to support investment into job-creating sectors, particularly through UK investment, partnering development partners including CDC; to support Global Britain objectives across HMG, on trade, prosperity, bilateral cooperation with China on investment issues; to support the UK Ghana Chamber to meet wider UK objectives around responsible development and trade.
SMEP - Sustainable Manufacturing and Environmental Pollution programme

The Sustainable Manufacturing and Environmental Pollution (SMEP) programme will tackle the problem of pollution generated by manufacturing and industrial activity in developing countries. Pollution linked to manufacturing and industry in developing countries is causing very high (and in some cases catastrophic) levels of environmental degradation, which are leading to long-term health problems among workers and the general population, as well as widespread contamination of vital resources, including drinking water, livestock, soils and food crops. The SMEP programme will contribute to the identification, development and application of technology-based solutions, cleaner production methods and systems that will reduce the environmental impact and pollution generated by manufacturing in developing countries, leading to long-term environmental sustainability, improved health standards and greater production efficiency.
The Evidence Fund Phase II

The Evidence Fund procures and manages research and evaluations that primarily benefit ODA eligible countries. Most research and evaluations paid for by the Evidence Fund are country-specific, and all respond to requests for evidence to inform programme or policy decisions. Primarily serving research requests from HMG’s Embassies and High Commissions in ODA eligible countries, and from HMG policy and strategy teams, the Evidence Fund strengthens the evidence behind the UK’s priority international development investments and development diplomacy. The Evidence Fund also invests modest amounts of non-ODA, to strengthen the evidence behind wider UK foreign policy.
Unlocking Digital Impact for Development.

This programme will help to deliver the strategic goals of DFID’s Digital Strategy, which aims to harness digital technology to deliver on the SDGs. The programme budget is £18.5 million between 2019-20 to 2023-24. Delivery will primarily be through the Digital Impact Alliance, housed within the UN Foundation. There is a separate pillar to finance complementary policy research and advice activities with other partners, including Digital Pathways at Oxford, as well as a learning and evaluation pillar. The programme will identify, trial and institutionalise good practice and common standards for digital development work. It will deliver sustainable and reusable digital products which create new or improved services; replicable business and partnership models to increase the use of digital products and data; data-driven policy-making tools and products to inform and advance transformation; and training offerings and skills-building tools to improve investments in digital technologies.
Strengthening Africa's Science Granting Councils Phase II

The programme will deepen ongoing work with the African Science granting Councils in the same thematic areas as those covered by the first phase of SGCI research management; monitoring learning and evaluation; knowledge transfer to the private sector; and enhanced networks and partnerships amongst councils and with other science system actors. It will extend focus into two new cross cutting dimensions; research excellence and gender equality and inclusivity. It will strengthen national Science Technology and Innovation systems and contribute to socio economic development in sub Saharan Africa by enhancing more effective and inclusive management of research and innovation by Councils in sub Saharan Africa.
Africa Technology and Innovation Partnerships - ATIP

The programme will strengthen innovation ecosystems in Africa, with a focus on Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa, in order to stimulate inclusive economic growth and the scaling of technology enabled businesses to solve development challenges.
MOBILIST - Mobilising Institutional Capital Through Listed Product Structures

FCDO seeks to support the development of new products that have the ambition to list on major and local exchanges, and by doing so, engage new sources of investment and new investors, to help bridge the SDG financing gap, estimated by the UN to total $2.5 trillion p.a. ODA flows alone will not meet the needs of developing countries, and new sources of private investment will be essential if the SDGs are to be met by 2030. The programme will work with UK-based financial service providers and providers across FCDO priority countries and more widely, working to help mobilise more capital to reach the hardest places, and where the needs are greatest.
Productivity for Prosperity (P4P)

Productivity for Prosperity is a sustainable economic transformation programme that will increase labour productivity and climate-resilience in Tanzania’s job-creating sectors. It will achieve this through private sector development (investment facilitation, trade facilitation and building capabilities of firms) and business environment reform (supporting proportionate and predictable regulation). P4P will dovetail with the UK’s external engagement and influencing activities in Tanzania. P4P will initially prioritise the agroprocessing and horticulture sectors, and will provide flexible support to bolster the UK’s current and future prosperity objectives.
Central Asia Small Projects Programme

This programme will provide the mechanism for embassies to develop small projects to further the aims of the Country Business Plans and develop learning to support wider programming initiatives, with the overall aim of supporting development in the region.
Sustainable Urban Economic Development Programme (SUED)

FCDO is supporting emerging urban centres in Kenya to put in place sustainable urban economic plans; improve the investment climate and draw in investment for key climate-resilient infrastructure and value chain projects. This will include integrating digital technologies to build ‘smart’ towns/cities that improve the quality and performance of urban services and enable a better quality of life.
Risk Pools Programme (RPP)

To support a parametric (index-based) weather risk insurance pool that will provide participating African countries with predictable, quick-disbursing funds with which to implement pre-defined contingency response plans in the case of a drought.
Disaster Risk Insurance

To improve the resilience of the private sector in poor countries to natural disasters by improving access to insurance products. By supporting the development of a market for private sector disaster risk insurance in developing countries, the project will sustainably help strengthen resilience, mitigate the effects of climate change and supporting economic development through private sector growth.
I2I - Ideas to Impact - Testing new technologies and innovative approaches to address development challenges.

I2I stimulates technological innovations addressing intractable development challenges, initially in the focal areas of energy, water and climate, and then increasingly in emerging “frontier” technologies with broader applicability. It tests different funding mechanisms and approaches - including prizes, peer-to-peer financing, Frontier Technology Livestreaming, and innovative cross-government partnerships - for ensuring technology ideas lead to a real-world development impact.
AT2030 Life-changing Access to Assistive Technologies

Over 1bn people live with moderate to severe functioning difficulties. 80% live in developing countries and 90% do not have access to the assistive technology, or 'AT', that they need. AT includes for example, wheelchairs, hearing-aids, digital devices, spectacles and prosthetics and orthotics. Increasing access to AT for older people and more broadly, people with impairments reduces poverty through improving access to education, employment, vocational training, healthcare, etc. As a result, participation in society and the community also increases. AT2030 will test and deliver proven methods of 'what works' to improve access to affordable AT, to the point they have started to reach scale or disrupt markets. It focusses on innovative products, new service delivery models and local capacity and will test novel approaches in four clusters - data and evidence, innovation, country implementation, and capacity and participation. The programme works in excess of 30 countries.
Hygiene, Handwashing & Behaviour Change Coalition for COVID 19 response programme

To develop an innovative partnership with Unilever to provide funding, for a ‘Hygiene, Handwashing & Behaviour Change’ Coalition for Covid19, matched with in-kind support and technical expertise by Unilever. Under Unilever leadership, the coalition will bring together academia (e.g. London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine), INGOs (e.g. Oxfam) and UN agencies, to deliver mass communications, hygiene products and digital behaviour change programmes on the importance of hand and environmental hygiene in low- and middle-income countries. This will build on recent investments Unilever has made in response to Covid19 and will allow scale up across multiple countries.
M4D - Mobile for Development Strategic Partnership

To work jointly with the industry group representing mobile phone operators worldwide, the GSMA, and its subsidiary Mobile for Development, to identify and support the development and use of new, innovative ways in which mobile phone technologies and mobile network infrastructure can be used to improve the reach, delivery and affordability of life-enhancing services to poor people in Africa and Asia. As a result of this work some 14 million poor people are expected to benefit from improved access to life enhancing services by 2020.
Research Secondment and Academic Advisory Programme

This programme provides funding and a mechanism to increase access to academic expertise on FCDO's priorities. It will likely include long-term academic secondments into FCDO and establishing a network of academics that work with the department on medium- and short-term commissions.
NGP - National Governance Programme

The National Governance Programme (NGP) supports Pakistan’s institutional reform agenda by strengthening whole-of-government coordination across federal and provincial levels. It combines technical assistance with politically informed approaches to improve decision-making, implementation, and accountability on priority reforms. The programme has expanded to include a Politics of Delivery (PoD) Facility, which provides rapid, demand-led technical and analytical support, delivery roadmaps, and politically smart approaches (including coalitions for change) to unlock reform challenges. Together, these components strengthen government capability to plan ahead, manage risks, and deliver sustained institutional change.
