SEED – Sustainable Energy for Economic Development
UK - Foreign, Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO)
This project will bring solar-powered electricity to homes and businesses in three cities in northern Democratic Republic of Congo: Gemena, Bumba and Isiro. These cities, with a combined population of 700,000, currently have no access to a power grid and struggle to get reliable, affordable and clean energy. By installing solar systems, the project will help local people and businesses grow, create jobs, and improve living standards. The investment is funded by the Kinshasa and aims to deliver energy within five years. It builds on previous UK support for energy access in the region and supports the DRC government’s priorities for expanding clean energy. The project will also help attract more private investment in future energy projects.
