Humanitarian Global Services: ACAPS and INFORM

ACAPS provides ongoing analysis of humanitarian crises at a global level. ACAPS project started end of 2009 and it is currently based in Geneva and Oslo but ACAPS provides surge support to acute crises where more in depth analysis and assessment support is required. In 2018 ACAPS will, in collaboration with the INFORM technical group, test a global crisis severity index to provide a basis for comparing the scale and severity of crises across the world. Provided that a successful prototype is developed, ACAPS plan to publish a regular global ranking of crisis from the beginning of 2019.

Strategic Assistance for Emergency Response in Democratic Republic of Congo (SAFER)

The expected impact of the programme is to reduce the vulnerability of households affected by conflict and shocks in Democratic Republic of Congo, with a specific outcome to deliver a coordinated humanitarian response that enables at least 561,409 vulnerable people affected by conflict and shocks to have safe and equitable access to multi-sectoral emergency assistance and reduce negative coping mechanisms. The proposed intervention is in line with the priorities of the Humanitarian Response Plan 2020 and its second strategic objective: the living conditions of the most vulnerable people affected by the loss of assets and livelihoods and/or with limited access to essential services are improved.

Improving protection and access to legal and specialized services for refugees from Syria and vulnerable populations in Lebanon

The DFID funded protection consortium, led by IRC and comprising IRC, NRC and HI, will ensure legal protection for refugees from Syria coupled with specialised services for persons with disabilities as well as protection monitoring activities to strengthen the overall protection analysis and response to vulnerable groups. Promoting Rights and Supporting Protection Needs in North East Nigeria (ProSPINE +)

ProSPINE+ builds on previous and ongoing protection programming in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states. AmplifyChange Pooled Funds from Donors

AmplifyChange is a multi-donor fund that supports civil society organisations who advocate for improved sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). AmplifyChange offers both financial and capacity-building support to selected civil society organisations through a challenge fund model, where organisations submit applications in competitive funding rounds. AmplifyChange is managed by MannionDaniels in consortium with the African Women’s Development Fund and Global Fund for Women. AmplifyChange was tendered in 2013, established in 2014, and the first funding rounds were held in 2015. The number of donors have increased since the beginning to a current total pot of approximately £90 million available for grant making (correct as of end-2017); the additional donor commitments have been extended to 2021. The donors include the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Denmark (Danida), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, ViiV Healthcare, the Department of International Development (DFID) the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad), Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) working with the Swedish Association for Sexuality Education (RFSU), and one anonymous donor. AmplifyChange Fund support civil society organisations (CSOs) primarily in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia, with some small grants being extended to organisations operating in Latin America, the Middle East and East Asia. Applicants can apply across four grant types: 1) Opportunity Grants: maximum 10,000 Euros over 1-year maximum 2) Strengthening Grants: between 40,000 – 100,000 Euros over 6 to 24 months 3) Network Grants: between 150,000 – 550,000 Euros over 2 years 4) Strategic Grants: between 550,000 to 2 million Euros over 2 years. AmplifyChange focuses on five priority areas: 1) Addressing gender-based violence, including sexual violence and female genital mutilation (FGM) 2) Addressing the causes of unsafe abortion including decriminalisation of abortion 3) Challenging stigma and discrimination, attitudes and laws that undermine human rights, including on grounds of gender or sexual orientation of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) individuals 4) Improving sexual health of young people and girls, including comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) and addressing child and early forced marriage (CEFM) 5) Increasing access to comprehensive reproductive health services for poor, vulnerable and marginalised people, including people living with disabilities.
