To improve transparency and accountability for oil, gas and mining and build skills of governments, companies and civil society to manage extractives to deliver growth and reduce poverty. To both raise global standards for transparency to drive accountability, including using technology tools and building capacity to use the data and also provide capacity support to resource-rich countries to manage extractives responsibly and accountably.
To encourage innovation amongst the private sector by provision of investment capital and business development services worth £27 m to innovative enterprises in low income states of India and £11m for enterprises in developing countries by 2019. This will contribute to MDGs by benefitting 1 million individuals with improved access to affordable and efficient services in the Low Income States of India and Developing Countries.
To strengthen long term reform by supporting short term results in the following areas: good governance and public financial management; promoting responsible investment; improving transparency and the rule of law; strengthening the work of parliament; and helping the process of ethnic reconciliation. Three components of this project will assist Burma’s application to join the EITI (Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative) by April 2014. This will help to ensure that the country’s own resources are used to benefit the people of Burma
Based on the Natural Resource Charter, the programme to strengthen oversight and enhance regulation of the sector; enhance revenue capture; improve revenue management; and promote accountability by building the capacity to monitor and challenge state performance by civil society and Parliament as a corollary for capacity building.
