Description

MRC AGHRB award to culturally adapt, assess the effectiveness and examine the barriers and facilitators to the implementation of Youth Aware of Mental Health (YAM) an evidence-based primary suicide prevention program for school adolescents in Nigeria

Objectives

1. To gain an understanding of the context and stakeholders' perception of adolescent suicidal behavior in Nigeria including intervention priorities 2. To contextualize and culturally adapt an evidence based universal intervention to be delivered by school teachers in the context of Nigerian school system 3. To assess if the adapted intervention can be feasibly delivered in Nigerian schools and test its acceptability among end users and stakeholders 4. To conduct a pilot-test of the adapted intervention in order to establish its clinical and cost effectiveness and get it ready for full implementation and scale up 5. To understand the challenges, barriers and facilitators to the delivery, implementation and sustainability of evidence based universal suicide prevention intervention in Nigeria schools.
