Description

MFP4 will support Indonesia’s objectives to strengthen forest governance and will contribute to DFID’s goal to bring about governance and market reforms that reduce illegal use of forest resources and benefit poor people.

Objectives

The ultimate desired impact of the programme is 'reduced deforestation in Indonesia - leading to climate protection, poverty reduction and conservation of biodiversity', which will be delivered through the outcome of 'improved forest governance in Indonesia that delivers growth of responsible timber trading and community-based forest businesses, leading to greater prosperity and the protection and regeneration of forests'. MFP4 will contribute to the impact and outcome through two workstreams: Workstream A: Growth in sustainable and legal timber production: MFP4 is mandated to ensure the effectiveness and sustainability of the national timber legality assurance system 'SVLK', which underpins FLEGT licensing, to further strengthen confidence amongst international buyers and domestic suppliers. Workstream B: Growth in community-based forest enterprises: MFP4 will catalyse community forest business development to foster more sustainable use of forests, reduce forest degradation and deforestation, and improve prosperity.
