Description
This £492,597 three years’ project will work towards reducing preventable death for children with cancer by improving treatment, care and quality of life.
Objectives
More specifically, by the development and use standardised treatment protocol for common childhood cancers across 7 paediatric units, training healthcare professionals on early warning signs (EWS) of childhood cancer and also on psychosocial support, and by the development and use of supportive care guidelines, as well as training nurse educators on leadership and management skills, the project will have contributed to: • A 70% protocol (standardised childhood cancer) adherence rate across 5 units • An increased number of healthcare staff delivering improved psycho-social support services • 7800 families having access to social and economic support • A 70% adherence rate to supportive care guidelines across 5 units • 500 HC professionals being trained on EWS and 70% of these demonstrating the capacity to recognise EWS • A number of 14 nurse educators trained and equipped with leadership and management skills
Target Groups
If successful, we will see at project’s end (28 February 2023): • Reduced abandonment rates (780 from baseline) • An increase of 10% in survival rates, i.e. from 45% at baseline to 55%
