Security Sector Accountability & Police Programme
Description
To strengthen the capacity and accountability of a Congolese police that is increasingly responsive to the needs of local communitiesTo improve the capacity and accountability of the Congolese National Police and of the internal security sector, by strengthening public oversight of the security sector and by supporting community policing reform efforts in three Pilot Provinces of the DRC. By December 2014, this programme will benefit Congolese citizens through improved security and justice delivery, and through the establishment of bottom-up community-led problem solving fora and mechanisms, through which empowered citizens are able to monitor security services and raise their security needs and concerns, with a special attention to women and girls.To improve the capacity and accountability of the Congolese National Police and the homeland security sector in general, by strengthening public oversight mechanisms and by supporting community policing reform efforts in three provinces in the DRC. At programme completion, this programme will have benefited Congolese citizens through improved security and justice delivery, and through the establishment of ‘bottom-up’, community-led problem-solving bodies, through which empowered citizens are able to monitor the performance of security services and make plain their security needs and concerns. The programme will ensure improved access to security and justice services for 955,000 women and girls.
