Global Programme on Sustainability
Department for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs
The programme supports sustainable economic growth that is both long-lasting and resilient to climate-related stressors. It does this through the integration of natural capital into decision making by governments, the private sector and financial institutions. The inability to value natural capital can undermine long-term growth and critically, the livelihoods of the poorest people dependent on ecosystems for their livelihoods. This programme directly addresses this challenge by (i) investing in data and research on natural capital; (ii) assisting countries to integrate this analysis into government policy making; and (iii) integrating this data and analysis into financial sector decision making.
British Academy Agile Response to Emergencies - Researchers at Risk Fellowships
DEPARTMENT FOR SCIENCE, INNOVATION AND TECHNOLOGY
The Researchers at Risk Fellowships Programme is being delivered by the British Academy on behalf of UK National Academies and in partnership with the Council for At-Risk Academics (Cara). The Fellowships will support researchers at risk to continue their research in the UK for up to two years. The programme is receiving £3 million of funding from the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), plus £8.88m from transition funding as the Global Challenges Research Fund closes and the new BEIS fund starts. The Nuffield Foundation, an independent charitable trust, is contributing £0.5 million towards the scheme.

British International Investment (BII) Programme of Support in Africa, South Asia, Indo-Pacific & Carib (2015-2031)

To enable BII to scale up its activity of investing and lending to support the building of businesses in developing countries, to create jobs and make a lasting difference to people’s lives in some of the world's poorest places. BII is FCDO’s main vehicle for investing in private companies in Africa, South Asia, Indo-Pacific and the Caribbean. BII encourages capital investments from other private investors by being a first mover, demonstrating to other investors that commercial returns are possible in these frontier markets, and by sharing risk and expertise. The additional equity from FCDO will enable BII to meet demand for capital in its target markets and allow BII to sustain a higher volume of more developmental investments across priority regions and business sectors

Public Finance Resource Centre (PFRC)

The PFRC offers technical assistance to ODA eligible countries in the fields of tax, public financial management (PFM) and broader macro-fiscal work, including debt management. The PFRC is intended to mobilise flexible technical assistance more quickly than is currently available, responding to clear demand for such support from partner countries. The PFRC is one of 3 pillars of the UK Centre of Expertise for Public Finance to help partner countries access technical expertise.
Humanitarian Assistance, Recovery and Protection (HARP) Programme

The HARP programme will provide lifesaving assistance to the most vulnerable people in Ukraine and Moldova, delivering in line with commitments set out in the UK humanitarian framework. The programme will prioritise humanitarian assistance to the areas of most severe needs, protect civilians, particularly those who may face barriers to accessing assistance, with a focus on gender-based violence and promotion of International Humanitarian Law and prevent the deterioration of households into humanitarian need through preparedness efforts to mitigate impact of shocks.
Global Mine Action Programme 3

The UK has had an historic role in talking the legacy of landmine and Explosive Remnants of War. We were one of the founding signatories to the Land Mine Ban Treaty of 1997, In the 24 years since then, the UK has supported some of the poorest countries around the world to clear landmines and ERW after conflict, building up considerable knowledge and experience in the mine action sector. UK funding for mine action saves lives, releases land for productive use and helps pace the way for further development programming. Through land mine and ERW clearance, mine risk education activities and capacity development of national and provincial authorities this programme will increase stability and security for people in countries affected by landmines and ERW.

In either case, the funding is targeted to support research along the route to achieving economic or social impact in countries on the OECD DAC list.

Ukraine Governance Reform Programme

To help Ukraine win the war, make progress on conditions for membership to the EU and NATO, and attract the foreign investment needed for its reconstruction, this programme will support the Government of Ukraine create independent, effective, and accountable institutions. Working in close partnership with close-minded allies such as the US, the programme will advance reform in the areas of anti-corruption, digitalisation, and rule of law, while maintaining flexibility to respond to emerging reform needs. In doing so, it will build citizens’ trust in their government, lay the foundations for long-term resilience and recovery, and help Ukraine on its Euro-Atlantic trajectory.
British Euro-Atlantic Language Training (BELT)

Following a Prime Ministerial commitment, this programme, which will be delivered by the British Council, will provide English Language Training (ELT) for civil servants working on EU and NATO accession negotiations and reforms, and is expected to improve the English language skills of up to 1400 officials in its first year. This focus on Euro-Atlantic integration will facilitate access to ELT for a range of priority Ministries working across negotiations and reforms, and balances both immediate and future needs. In years 2 and 3 the programme will invest in sustainable ways to meet the Government of Ukraine’s (GoU) future ELT needs.
Verification and Technical Assurance Programme, Ukraine (VERITAS-UKR)

Since the full-scale Russian invasion, Ukraine has experienced heavy fighting, air-raids and strikes on people, communities and infrastructure. FCDO has scaled-up its ODA programming to address the devastating consequences. BEK’s programming is often in hard-to-reach areas, where the needs are greatest and security threats are heightened. BEK staff cannot travel to directly to verify the delivery and assure the quality of programmes. VERITAS-UKR addresses this challenge by providing vital verification, assurance and evidence to improve the quality and integrity of BEK’s ODA programming. It has four objectives: Third Party Monitoring (TPM), generating portfolio-evidence on topics of cross-cutting interest, transparency (supporting monitoring initiatives in civil society) and a programme-funded staff-post for monitoring and results.
Foundations for Infrastructure and Recovery (FIRE)

A short term (12-18 month) technical assistance programme which lays the foundations for a robust approach to infrastructure identification, appraisal, project preparation, design and delivery in support of Ukraine’s reconstruction. Building on existing strategic and technical advice and support to the State Agency for Restoration (SARDI) and the Ministry for Restoration.
